About Artilium

Simon Wood Chief Technology Officer

Simon is an accomplished technology leader with more than 15 years’ experience driving innovation in mobile communications, the Microsoft ecosystem and IT/telecoms convergence.  He has a strong software development and software quality background and has taken many companies through ISO9001 and TickIT certification.  He has also managed technical due diligence for several acquisitions.

Holding five patents for wireless communication, Simon has extensive expertise in the real-time management of complex data streams.  Since 1991, he also has been delivering the Microsoft platform into new mission-critical areas.  He was responsible for driving out legacy mainframe flight analysis software and spearheading Microsoft into flight operations for British Airways, Korean Air and other airlines; and he also brought Microsoft into the real-time world of F1 MotorSport racing.

Prior to joining Artilium, Simon was chief technology officer of flyingSPARK where he led design and engineering of an advanced mobile platform that enabled the rapid development of GPRS optimized applications for Microsoft Windows Mobile. He was responsible for the full engineering lifecycle, from functional specification to design, development, quality assurance and release.  Additionally, he drove the creation of a development community around the published open interfaces of the platform, which forged the technology foundation for several companies.

Previous to his role at flyingSPARK, he held senior product strategy and development leadership roles for several market defining software companies.  He led development at Axxia Systems, the UK’s leading legal sector software provider; and also served as head of quality at TAG Electronic Systems (TAG McLaren), running the off-car management and telemetry systems used by the major Formula One teams, including McLaren, Jordan, Peugeot, and Arrows.

He was a senior software manager at TheFlightData Company, where he was responsible for the Windows-based product roll-out with several major airlines and he began his career at Racal Research.

Simon has a bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering from Southampton University.
