Paul Thornton Senior Independent Non-Executive Director

A lifelong management consultant, Paul has established a long, rich career guiding businesses, industry leaders and important initiatives.

For 20 years, he played a variety of critical roles with the PA Consulting Group, Europe’s foremost business and technology consulting firm, including serving as a member of PA’s eight-strong global leadership team. He also was manager of the Paragon vehicle routing package, head of the IT practice in Germany and then the UK, general manager for Benelux, and worldwide marketing director. In 1994, Paul co-founded the French Thornton Partnership, which aimed to set new standards for change management in technology-dependent corporations. The company took on numerous high-profile projects, including the design of Transport for London’s Oystercard program and the launch of the UK’s first Internet bank. Following the sale of French Thornton to ITNET (now SERCO), he served for two years as interim CIO for the Dutch supermarket giant, Royal Ahold.

Over the past several years, Paul has divided his time between professional and voluntary activities. He has advised senior executives in a number of major corporations in the US and Europe to review their IT investment programs. He has also completed a series of due diligence engagements for venture capitalists and private equity firms considering investment in technology businesses. He is involved on a pro bono basis with a numbers of arts and architecture charities and is vice-chair of Camden Arts Centre.
