Based on Artilium’s Mobile Presence Innovation

NXTcomm08, Las Vegas, 16th June 2008 - Artilium, a leading European developer of Microsoft-based carrier-grade software for mobile network operators, unveils new mashup applications developed via the Microsoft Connected Services Sandbox, a development environment that facilitates the rapid creation and deployment of new services which combine Web 2.0 type services with traditional telecommunications offerings.

Artilium will showcase three applications created in the Sandbox at NXTcomm08 in Las Vegas, June 17-19, 2008 at the Microsoft booth #SL5916/SL5923. Featuring Artilium’s patented Mobile Presence functionality the applications are examples of the thousands of services that can be offered by mobile operators as paid services or part of subscriber or business customer packages. The Artilium NXTcomm08 demonstrations will feature:

A child monitoring service that allows parents to check the location of their children and their status (ie., on phone, in a lesson, etc.); and make a one-click phone call from the computer desktop to their child or a designated contact within a particular location (ie., school, home).

Real-time call control from the desktop so that when you receive a call on your mobile, landline or IP phone, a pop-up displays on your computer screen that features contact details including a photo designated in Microsoft Office Outlook contacts, and provides the user with options to ‘control’ the call such as sending it to voicemail, forwarding the call to an assistant, another number, or other options.

A desktop-integrated location-based weather service that delivers dynamic 12-hour weather forecasts specific to the subscriber’s current location.

“Microsoft shares Artilium’s vision for the development of new services by combining the best of the Web world with the best of the telecom world. We see third-party application development powering a new wave of innovation, which in turn provides operators with a plethora of new revenue-generating services,” stated Steve Zimba, Managing Director of the Global Telecom Business at Microsoft Corp. “We’re excited to be showcasing Artilium’s applications created in the Microsoft Connected Services Sandbox.”

We’re excited to work with Microsoft to enable network operator delivery of a new generation of services that securely exploit the convergence of Web and telecommunications networks.”

The applications showcased in the Microsoft booth are built using Artilium’s ARTA Mobile Services Platform, an open and modular Next Generation Service Delivery Platform and Intelligent Network built on Service Oriented Architecture principles and designed to enable the rapid creation of new mobile applications. ARTA provides open and secure mobile network access to third-party developers creating intelligent mash-ups that combine network capabilities of presence, mobility, location and telephony with Web services including advertising, social networking and search.
Artilium Acquires Location-Based Software Innovator Trisent Communications

More accurate than Google, up to 25 times cheaper than GPS, Trisent Software with Artilium’s Platform Enables Operators to Monetize Location-Aware Services

London, UK and Barcelona, Spain – 11 February 2008 – Artilium plc (LSE/AIM: ARTA), a European leader in advanced telecommunications software is pleased to announce the acquisition of Trisent Communications, a specialist in Location-Based Services (LBS) technology that enables mobile network operators to deliver services to subscribing customers based on the geographic location of their mobile phone.

Trisent’s technology complements Artilium’s ARTA Service Delivery Platform to allow operators to rate, charge and deliver an array of intelligent differentiated services combining location, presence (Ie, availability), commerce and social networks, among other criteria. Applications include resource tracking i.e. taxis, fleet scheduling; business directory, weather, traffic; and proximity-based notification i.e. targeted advertising, buddy list, profile matching (dating).

“Mobile presence is the most innovative revenue generating opportunity for network operators today. By combining location with presence and status consumers can see the availability of the people they want to reach, mobile network operators can provide contextually aware services, and brands can better personalize mobile experiences,” said Robert Marcus, CEO of Artilium. “Add commerce to the mix and the vision and monetization of location-based services is truly realized.”

According to research from Gartner Group, the total number of subscriptions to Location-Based Services in Western Europe, North America, Asia / Pacific and Japan is expected to grow from 7m in 2006 to 298m in 2011.* According to Strategy Analytics, in North America alone, end-user spending on location-aware mobile services is expected to grow from $110m end of 2006 to $2.2bn by end of 2011.**

Trisent currently has a licensing agreement with Max Telecom, a fixed and wireless telecommunications operator in Bulgaria. The Trisent technology is being used for workforce management and fleet tracking at present and will expand to offer mobile customers location-aware services including personal security, lone worker protection and services industry employee deployment.

“In our initial roll-out of Trisent technology in the business-to-business market, we’ve realized a cost savings of up to 25 times compared with GPS fleet tracking equivalents,” stated Krassimir Stoitcheff, CEO of Max Telecom. “We’re very pleased with the Trisent technology and have hugely satisfied customers using the technology. We are excited about the opportunities for future services, revenues and growth ahead.”

“Although many players are in the location-based services space, Trisent’s technology is definitely unique in providing a low-cost software-only solution to determine continuous location. Google’s My Location provides spot location presented on the phone as a map, whereas Trisent offers a sophisticated alternative with automatic continuous location,” said Professor Stephen McLaughlin, University of Edinburgh.

The Trisent technology, the Tri-Cell Intelligent Location System, offers real-time tracking service like GPS (Global Positioning System), but does not use satellites or require equipment to be installed on the network. The technology works by using standard phone handsets and offers several advantages over GPS, including significant cost savings, lower battery requirements, increased indoor coverage (an advantage for social networking) and ‘always on’ status (GPS can be turned off).

Based in Dunfermline, Scotland, Trisent was founded by Gordon Povey PhD, inventor of the Tri-Cell Intelligent Location System. Previously, Dr. Povey was a founder and managing director of Elektrobit (UK) Ltd., a subsidiary of Elektrobit Corporation based in Finland. There are currently two patents filed for the Trisent technology.

Artilium Defines Issues and Solutions for Fixed Mobile Convergence

Convergence, Market Fragmentation and Unified Communications Top the List of Critical Issues for Artilium Event Attendees

London, UK: 24 May, 2007 – The rise of Internet Protocol (IP) networks as a communication platform coupled with fragmentation of the marketplace due to the rapid increase in Virtual Network Operators has dramatically altered the telecommunications landscape to create new opportunities and challenges for operators, managed service providers, system integrators and hosting companies.

These issues, along with a discussion on how Unified Communications has become a reality due to major developments in the industry, were the key topics addressed at a customer event hosted in Brussels, Belgium by Artilium (LSE/AIM: ARTA), a specialist in convergence technology that seamlessly integrates disparate fixed, mobile and IP networks to enable the rapid deployment of converged services and applications.

As part of the Artilium event, the company outlined its portfolio of solutions. Robert Marcus, Artilium’s CEO stated “Artilium has developed innovative solutions which have enabled operators to extend legacy networks to launch new offerings which are delivered across fixed, IP and mobile platforms. Founded in 1995 and recognized for its engineering talent and unique combination of IT and telecom expertise, Artilium has completed more than 40 installations serving tens of millions of end-users in 11 countries.” Attended by more than 125 customers and partners and including key speakers from communications industry leaders, Artilium’s customer and partner event enabled delegates to discuss:

Fixed Mobile Convergence: The reality of convergence today focuses on the issues of seamless call routing between networks and service integration and features such as One number (or multiple numbers), one invoice (or multiple invoices), and Find Me/Follow Me presence capabilities which forward calls and emails to the location of the user.

Fragmentation: Mobile and fixed-line providers see VNOs as a crucial new way of increasing revenue and growing their subscriber bases. However, in order to do this VNO’s need autonomy and real-time control of the network. Ideal solutions enable real-time subscriber creation, the ability for real-time fraud detection, fixed/mobile routing of calls and the ability for VNOs to offer online self-care tools and to own and quickly change product, price and promotion offerings.

Unified Communications: Convergence is here. The advent of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is bringing Unified Communications to the forefront of new service offerings. Today, operators and service providers are laying the foundation for offering services such as: 1) centralizing telephone, fax, SMS/MMS and email messages into one place to be accessed via an easy-to-use interface; 2) Linking Microsoft Exchange 2007 desktop presence technology with telecoms networks to enable subscribers to define their availability and preference for receiving communications; and 3) Integrating voice with business processes to maximize existing networks and provide revenue-generating, differentiating offerings.

“Moving forward, Artilium is scaling our suite of solutions for global customers that seek to capitalize on the fixed mobile convergence initiatives in Unified Communications by Microsoft and others,” Marcus added. “The need for people to connect to their desktop is not only the domain of road warriors anymore; prosumers are rapidly demanding access to communications in one place. Our portfolio of open, flexible and modular solutions - Arta VNO Enabler, Arta Convergence Enabler and Arta Business Voice Enabler - drives the ability to launch new services which merge the desktop with networks to increase revenues for operators today and position for future convergence.”

In conjunction with the customer and partner event, Artilium also announced two new nonexecutive board members, Richard Hooper and Michael Hulme.

Richard Hooper joins Artilium as Non-Executive Director after a long and distinguished career in the communications industry. From 2002 until 2005 Richard was founding Deputy Chairman of the UK’s Office of Communications (Ofcom) and served prior to that as Chairman of the Radio Authority. Richard has devoted his career to the convergent world of media and communications, having been a radio and television producer at the BBC; Chief Executive Officer of the Value Added Systems & Services division of British Telecom; and Chief Executive Officer of the satellite channel, Super Channel Limited. Mr Hooper is also a partner of Hooper Communications.

Richard is currently a Non-Executive Director of Yell Group plc and of i-mate plc. He recently stepped down as Chairman of the £2.5 billion specialist information provider, Informa plc, following nine years of service on the Board. Since 1988 his career has combined board positions across the public and private sector. Other directorships in the past five years include IMS Group plc and UK e-Universities Worldwide Limited.

Also joining the Board is Michael Hulme, 50. Michael is Honorary Professor and Associate Fellow of the Institute for Advanced Studies at Lancaster University where he is a member of the Lancaster University Development Board. He is a Fellow of the UK’s Royal Society of Arts and a member of the Market Research Society.

Michael is Director of the Centre for the Study of Media Technology and Culture, a social insight consultancy and director of the Social Futures Observatory an independent think-tank closely associated with the Institute for Advanced Studies. His involvements outside social research include chairing a public-private special investment partnership providing seed and growth funding to small and medium businesses. Michael’s career began in corporate finance before moving into marketing and then strategy in the computer industry, becoming head of strategic marketing for one of Europe’s then largest financial services software houses.
