TILS

Overview

ARTA’s Tri-cell Intelligent Location System (TILS) is a ubiquitous solution that enables quick and easy delivery of location-based services and drives increases in ARPU and consumer loyalty.

Part of the wider ARTA Platform Presence Foundation, TILS provides operators with automatic continuous location monitoring for subscribing mobile phones.  This allows operators to deliver powerful services to personalize a customer’s mobile experience such as:

  • Family / Friend Finder: the ability to see the location of family and friends with zones and alerts;
  • Location-based charging: (special) mobile tariffs based on a user’s location;
  • Location-based call routing and unified communications: receive calls in a preferred order or with the user’s scheduled activities, depending on the location of the customer (Find Me Follow Me);
  • Location-based advertising;
  • Resources management: locate available employees and company fleet.
Advantages over GPS

TILS software is downloaded easily on any compatible mobile phone or SIM card, providing regular location information via small data packets sent to the central TILS server over the mobile network. TILS has recognizable advantages for the consumer over GPS or other specialist equipment, making it a much more affordable solution:

  • Handset independent: does not require specialist handsets with enhanced chipsets;
  • Low battery drain;
  • Always-on (if required);
Benefits for the operator
  • Better than cell ID accuracy: TILS uses a proprietary server-based hybrid algorithm to determine location;
  • Self learning: the TILS system is trained over time with subscriber network information and possibly GPS data to further improve location accuracy;
  • Network independent: no equipment in the telecom network is required, only a small applet on the phone or SIM card and a TILS server;
  • Easy deployment: easy to integrate into an operator environment and rapidly create new services;
  • Scalable: each TILS server handles many thousands of subscribers and additional processors can be added to increase capacity. Also, the TILS handset application can be delivered over-the-air;
  • Resilient: load balancing and automatic database replication;
  • Easily upgraded: the system is modular enabling new clients and processing algorithms to be added over time;
  • Application friendly: TILS is easily accessed by new ARPU generating operator services through simple yet fully functional APIs;
  • Relatively inexpensive.
